Social pediatrics in a baccalaureate nursing curriculum

This paper describes the use of social pediatrics in one baccalaureate nursing curriculum. Social is a conceptual model that considers health as physical and determinants health. focuses on community-based primary healthcare services for at-risk children their families. The used by community early childhood education StrongStart sites Canadian province; these are collaborations between educators public teams from infancy through five years age. Acute care clinical placements becoming too complex limited number to accommodate large undergraduate cohorts. Our program recently shifted acute pediatric sites, combining learning objectives activities foreground pediatrics. component includes classroom theory, laboratory virtual simulations. integration within our curriculum 2018-2019; qualitative evaluation approach 2019-2020. We content analysis identify common themes interviews with key actors, including students’ instructors, sites’ managers, nurse managers affiliated sites. Common were related opportunities drawbacks; knowledge, skills attitudes; recommendations enhancement.
